Bent Down

"A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff
out." (Isaiah
42:3;
Matthew 12:20)
"Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you." (1
Peter 5:7)
The Christmas and holiday decorations packed up and closeted away for another
year, I found myself a tiny bit tired. Well, simple explanation, a lot of extra
things going on during the month of December. Yes, a warm, grateful feeling, yet
still a bit weary. All of a sudden the thought occurred to me, maybe I was
tip-toeing into the future.
Thinking and planning can absolutely get me feeling overwhelmed. First of the
new year, resolutions and all that. One day at a time is definitely the ticket
for me here. . . . the bible says to not worry about the future, because each
day has enough “troubles” of its own! (Matthew
6:34)
Just as snow falls on an evergreen tree, and a sturdy branch can become bent
down with the weight of the snow, the branch won’t break. Things come into our
lives; we might become bent, but we won't break.
Lord, whenever I feel a bit weary, bent down, please help me to remember that
You, Lord, care for me and will provide for me. Help me to not plan so much.
Thank You that the way will unfold, step by step. I will leave tomorrow’s burden
to You, God, because You are the great burden-bearer. Thank you, Lord for
carrying and taking care of our every concern, now and in the days and weeks to
come during this new year. In Jesus’ name, amen.
