Lurking in the Background

I listened to the morning news and two things were headlines. The first was violence in society. In addition to violent deaths on roads, domestic violence and world-wide violence which we hear about every day, a gunman had caused multiple deaths and injuries in a highly civilised community.

The second headline was about establishing a commission to combat corruption at top levels of society. It is an admission that corruption is present.

Meanwhile, lurking in the background, is a proclaimed threat to every citizen of disastrous global climate change.

So, said Jesus in Matthew 24:37, if you want to know what is going on in the world today, look at the days of Noah.

The hot news in Noah’s day was world-wide corruption, and world-wide violence, Genesis 6: 11. Lurking in the background was the threat of global climate change, exactly the same as today.

All three were caused by compromised beliefs. ‘The sons of God married the daughters of men,’ (Genesis 6:4), which meant that men and women who were true to the Lord had compromised their beliefs through intermarrying with those of other beliefs.

The result of compromised belief was global corruption, global violence, and global climate change because ‘the flood came and destroyed them all,’ (Luke 17:27)

It was the first world-wide climate change on earth recorded in the Bible and Jesus said it is what happens when beliefs are compromised.

The second global weather change recorded in the Bible was lurking in the background when the sons of Jacob sold their brother and lied to their father about it. It was followed by a drought. ‘Famine was over all the face of the earth,’ (Genesis 41:56). It is an example warning you and me that lying to our Father in heaven may cause global food shortage.

Moses told us all about it and today we have the same violence and corruption with climate change lurking in the background. If we believe in Jesus, we must make a choice based on Bible history because Jesus said if we do not believe what Moses wrote, we cannot believe what Jesus said, John 5:46,47.
