His Outstretched Arms

“And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.” (Luke 23: 33 KJV)

When I go to bed, the first thing I do is stretch. Then, I lay on my back while reliving the day with Jesus and we have a nice conversation. When I am ready to go to sleep, I have a favorite position. I turn on my left side, pull the pillow down farther under my ear, cross my arms and burrow into the bed until I am in my comfortable position.

Jesus couldn’t do that as He hung on that cruel Cross. He couldn’t move His Arms or Body to get in a comfortable position. Even if He could have, there was no place of comfort on that Cross, especially in His Heart. Everyone had rejected Him and walked away; all the ones who had claimed to be His friends.

We are celebrating His victorious rising from the dead today, but sad to say, we still keep His Precious Arms outstretched every day. We keep Him hanging on that horrible Cross by our rotten attitudes, our unforgiving ways, and the cruel words we say to each other.

Even today, He sometimes doesn’t have a place of comfort in our hearts because they are so full of bitterness and anger. On this Victorious Day, let’s forget about ourselves and think of Him. Allow the risen Christ to take away the things in your heart that hurt Him so that He can rest in comfort.
