A Light in the Darkness
“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” (John 8:12 KJV)
Someone emailed me and wrote “Everything has gone wrong in my life. I feel like I am in a long dark tunnel and I don’t see any light at all.” We may feel like we are in total darkness, however, Jesus said “he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”.
Jesus does not lie. He said that if we will follow Him we will not walk in darkness. We will have the light of life. If we can’t see any light, we need to examine our hearts and see if we are following Jesus or if we are following people. Only Jesus can help us walk in the path He has for our lives.
Helen Howarth Lemmel, the daughter of a Methodist minister, wrote the hymn “Turn Your Eyes upon Jesus”. “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, Look full in His wonderful face, And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, In the light of His glory and grace.”
If we will turn our eyes upon Jesus and keep them there and look full in His wonderful face, things won’t seem so dark. Are you walking in the light of Jesus or are you walking in the darkness of discouragement? Don’t let satan discourage you. Cry out to Jesus and ask Him to help you.
Heavenly Father, there are times in our lives when we walk in the darkness of discouragement. Please help us to keep our eyes on Jesus so we will always have the light of life. Jesus, thank You for shining Your light in our hearts and in our lives. Amen.
