Don't Blink
“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. There
hath no temptation taken you but such is common to man: but God is faithful, who
will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the
temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it” (1
Corinthians 10:12, 13 KJV)
I have a pinball game that someone gave me that I play on my computer to
exercise my fingers so they don’t get stiff. I was playing a game yesterday. I
was doing great. I knew I was going to win the game. However, I got
overconfident. I allowed my mind to wander for a minute and I blinked. Guess
what? I lost the game.
I thought how true that is with our lives. We are confident that we have
everything under control when all of a sudden someone tempts us to do something
or go some place we know we shouldn’t go to or do. Just as I blinked while
playing the pinball game yesterday and lost the game, so you and I will lose the
battle with temptation if we don’t cry out to God for help.
We are not strong enough to withstand temptation. However, our Scripture verses
for today assure us that God is faithful. He will make a way for us to escape
the temptation. If you have been trying to fight temptation by yourself, it
won’t work. It never has worked and it never will work.
O you might be able to withstand the temptation for a while but eventually satan
will win. Don’t let satan win. Run into the protective arms of our Heavenly
Father and let Him help you. He will not fail you. Thank God that He not only
protects us but He also provides a way for us to escape temptation.
