Is Sickness and disease the result of sin in the world?
In a word, yes!
The very thought of living our lives without fear, need or
worry...No hunger, pain, or suffering of any kind is so far removed
from reality, few of us ever think about it. Yet for two very
special people, this is how they once knew life.
While living in the garden, Adam and Eve, the first of mankind,
never knew so much as a bee sting or a sliver. Neither did they know
hunger, sickness or suffering of any kind. They were living in a
paradise and were immortal. Then suddenly one day something went
terribly wrong. In the twinkling of an eye, life forever changed
when Adam and Eve listened to the serpent and sinned against the
Lord. For from that moment on, suffering, disease, sickness, and
mortality all became reality...our reality. The operative word here
is corrupt, meaning subject to rot, decay, to be morally debased, to
deceive, to cause disintegration...to die.
The fall of Adam was so great, the whole world and everything in it
fell under a curse and became subject to suffering and death.
(Genesis 3:17-19; Romans 8:22)
Satan had man pinned to the ground, helpless. But an all knowing God
was way ahead of Satan. For God had made provisions for man's
healing, even from before the foundations of the world. (Genesis
3:15)
God not only had a plan for redeeming mankind back to himself, He
also created the provisions man would need while alive in his
physical body to live life "to the full," to heal his body from
disease and sickness. For God's plan for man's redemption is not
limited to salvation of his soul, but includes the quality of his
existence for the here and now, as well as life in the here after.
Why do we suffer with sickness and disease, and go to the grave?
It's because we become corrupt. (Ezekiel 18:4) God's redemption of
man is total, saving not only his soul, but body and spirit as well.
