The Road to Prosperity -- By Lyn Chaffart

". . . for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity . . . Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man . . . this will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones . . . He will make your paths straight . . . then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine."  (Prov. 3:2, 4, 6, 8, 10)

Prosperity.  Long life.  Favor.  Good name.  Health.  Guidance.  Wealth.  Sounds good, doesn't it?  This list includes just about everything the world tells us is important!  And the preface to each of these "importants" is "they will", "this will", and "then you will"!  Do I have your attention yet?  Mine was certainly aroused as I read through the even verses of the third chapter of Proverbs this morning!  After all, almost every prayer request that is published in this newsletter falls into one of these categories!  Had I suddenly "hit" upon the secrets that every Answers2Prayer subscriber seeks?  I was certainly sitting on the edge of my chair!

So just what are these secrets, anyway?  They are found in the "odd" verses of Prov. 3, the verses that are left out in the above passage!  ". . . do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart . . . let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart . . . Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him . . . fear the Lord and shun evil . . . Honor the Lord with your wealth, and the firstfruits of all your crops . . ."  (Prov. 3:1,3,5,7,9)"

Sounds simple enough, doesn't it?  All I have to do is remember a few simple teachings:  1) Love; 2) Faithfulness; 3) Trust God; 4) Acknowledge God in all ways; 5) Fear God; 6) Shun evil; and 7) Honor God with your wealth.  Hey!  I can do this!  Or can I?  As I read through the list a second time, reality struck!  If I could really do all these things, than why wasn't I already experiencing the fullness of the blessings attached?  Then reality struck again, even harder this time:  I couldn't do these things.  They were impossible for me, because they are 100% opposite to my human nature!  How then, could I obtain love, faith, trust, etc?

God didn't leave me soaking in my "reality mud-bath" for too long.  I found the answer is found in the next verses of Prov. 3: "Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her." (Prov. 3:13,14)

First and foremost, I must seek wisdom and understanding!  These other things are but a natural result of seeking wisdom and understanding.  And how can I obtain wisdom?  James 1:5 says it is mine for the asking! "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."

Lord, I want to bind love and faithfulness around my neck so that they truly will never leave me!  I want to acknowledge You in all my ways.  I don't want to lean on my own understanding.  I desire to trust You and honor You with every part of my life.  Lord, I desire to bind Your laws in my heart!  Help me, Lord, for I have proven time and time again that I can't do these things on my own.  Give me wisdom and understanding Lord, so that I will allow You to guide my steps and to create a new heart within me!  Only then can I walk in the fullness of Your blessings, and only that can I be able to share this blessing with others!

In His love,
Lyn
