You are my Refuge!!

"In the path where I walk men have hidden a snare for me. Look to my right and see; no one is concerned for me.  I have no refuge; no one cares for my life."  (Ps 142:3-4)

What a desperate cry!  How laden with pain . . . disillusionment . . . distress . . .  How sad.  And how common!

I'm sure that most of you can relate to David's cry.  In a world as full of self-seekers as this one is, most of us have been taken advantage of at least once, and for many of us, it's become a way of life!  We all know what if feels like to find no one to side with us.  We know what it's like to have no one show concern for us.  And as long as we seek comfort, refuge, and love from human sources, we are doomed for disappointment!

But King David doesn't leave us hanging in this tale of woe:  "I cry aloud to the LORD; I lift up my voice to the LORD for mercy. I pour out my complaint before him; before him I tell my trouble . . . I cry to you, O LORD; I say, "You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living." (Ps 142:1,2,5)

There is a solution, my friends!  There is Someone who will always listen!  Someone who cares INFINITELY more for you than any human being ever could!  Someone who is truly concerned for YOU!!  "For God so loved [you] that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

My friends, King David learned by experience a great truth that every Christian today needs to know:  Our value is NOT rooted in human reactions!  Our worth is NOT measured by human compassion!  The meaning in our lives is NOT defined in human terms, by by God!  God knows the heart: "You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways."
(Ps 139:2-3)

AND He is the one to decide ultimate rewards:  ". . . You, O Lord, are loving.  Surely You will reward each person according to what he has done." (Ps 62:12)

Lord Jesus, help me to lean less and less on humans, and more and more on YOU! Lord, help me to stop using human words and reactions to define who I am, and start relying 100% on You!  For YOU are my refuge!
