Are we as Patient

“And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,” (2 Timothy 2:24 KJV)

The last time my sister and brother-in-law took me out to eat we passed a church that had a message on their sign outside the church that really convicted me. This was the message “Be as patient with others as God is with you”.

I was embarrassed and ashamed of myself when I read that because I am not as patient with others as God is with me. How about you? Can you honestly say that you are as patient with others as God is with you?

We especially need to be patient with new Christians. When babies start to crawl, we don’t expect them to be able to walk the next day, yet we expect new Christians to be mature in the faith immediately. We forget that we also had to learn and grow.

I don’t think we fully realize how patient Jesus is with us. He has proved to us over and over that we can trust Him with our lives and with our families. Yet, there are times when we act like He isn’t able to take care of us and our families.

I believe that we hurt Jesus many times because we don’t fully trust Him. We need to start being as patient with others as our Heavenly Father and Jesus are with us. If they are patient with us, how dare we not be patient with others?

Heavenly Father, thank You for being patient with us and for loving us even when we hurt You and fail You. Please help us to be as patient with our families, with our friends and with all people as You are with us. Amen.
