Emotional Crutches

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2 KJV)

When we break our legs or injure them, sometimes we have to use crutches until our legs heal. There is another kind of crutch and it is an emotional crutch. When someone is hurting emotionally, the person needs an emotional crutch.

Jesus hasn’t been here for over two thousand years. He has left us to hug for Him. Our encouragement and our hugs are emotional crutches for those who are hurting emotionally. One day, we may need an emotional crutch.

Joyce Landorf Heatherley, a Christian author and speaker, said on one of her teaching tapes “I am not super spiritual every minute of the day and if I’m going to make it through, it’s going to have to be because of you”.

Our Scripture verse instructs us to bear one another’s burdens. When a soldier gets wounded in battle, the other soldiers risk their own lives to rescue the soldier. Christians should be like those soldiers.

When someone is hurting emotionally, those of us who claim to be Christians should do all we can do to help the person who is hurting. When is the last time you were an emotional crutch for someone? Reach out and hug someone for Jesus today!
