It Was Love

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” (John 15: 13 KJV)

It was love that kept Jesus on the cross for us. He could have come down from the cross. All the nails and all the soldiers in the world couldn’t have kept Jesus on the cross if He had wanted to come down from that cross. However, He loves us so much that He willingly stayed on that cross of horror and torture and died for our sins. He paid the debt for us that we could never have paid. Every time they pounded a nail into his hands, I believe that He felt that nail being pounded into His heart. It wasn’t the nails and the physical pain that killed Jesus.

I believe with all of my heart that our precious Saviour died of a broken heart because He had been rejected, criticized, scorned, abused and left alone to die. When we are hurting and there is nobody around to comfort us, we can go to Jesus. When Jesus was hanging on that cross, He was totally alone. Not even His Father could help Him. Our Heavenly Father is a Holy God and He can’t look on sin so He had to turn away from His beloved Son because Jesus had taken our sins on Him.

What kind of love is this that Jesus would willingly die for us when He had never done anything wrong? This is an amazing, compassionate, giving and unconditional love that comes from the hearts of our Heavenly Father and our precious Saviour. When satan hurls his vicious poisonous darts at us, we should love Jesus so much that we will keep on serving Him no matter how many darts satan hurls at us. Remember, the level of our service to Jesus depends on our level of love for Him. How much do you love Him and how much are you doing for Him?
