Knowing God, Part 5
Wanting What He Wants . . .

Scripture: Luke
11:13 "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give
good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father
in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"
NLT
Today was watch my grandchild day. His name is Bryce and at
6 months he is into everything. We were having a fun time
getting to know one another and several people stopped by
for prayer. Prayer is a good thing but when you are watching
a 6 month old I learned you only pray with one eye shut.
To occupy Bryce while we prayed we brought out a huge
plastic bag of toys. The mountain of a bag was bigger than
he was. When he saw the bag his eyes got really big and
since he couldn't talk he screamed in utter joy as a toy
fell out of the bag. The object was to get him to play with
one toy while the rest of the toys remained in the bag as a
reserve for the future.
But being a bright child Bryce knew that watching what was
coming out of the bag was going to be better than playing
with the toys inside. So for the next twenty minutes he
systematically pulled each toy out of the bag, each with a
resounding squeal. I was amazed at the enjoyment that bag
brought him. Each toy removed was intended for his enjoyment
and pleasure but each one was thrown to the side. The
amusement of removing the toy from the bag was pleasure
enough. In my mind he had settled for less than I had for
him.
Later after Bryce had gone home and I settled down after a
hectic day, I thought about how I had prepared a pile of
toys for his enjoyment. But rather than use what I had
prepared he was satisfied with what he first saw.
Then it struck me. Is that what I've done in my relationship
with God? Has He prepared a special relationship with me?
Has He carved out a special niche for me? Am I not in tune
with the niche? Could I be satisfied with a little when He
has a lot more in store for me?
Father, I thank you for what you have prepared for me. I
give you thanks that as insignificant as I am on a planet
with 6 billion people that you are interested in me. How
awesome you are. Please help me find all that you have for
me and do not let me settle for anything less. In the name
of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
