Scriptural Names of Christ
The two most popular names believers use in speaking of our Lord are 1) Jesus and 2) Christ.
1) “Jesus” is a translation of the Hebrew word “Joshua” which means “Yahweh
(Jehova) is Salvation”.
2) “Christ” is a transliteration of the Greek term “Christos”, meaning “Anointed
One” or “Messiah”. Going through the New Testament, many other names could be found namely:
1. Matthew 1:23, Immanuel – God with us.
Significance: Stands with us in all of life’s circumstances.
2. Matthew 18:11, Son of Man – Identifies with us in our humanity.
3. Mark 1:24, Holy One of God – Sinless in His nature.
4. Luke 1:47, Saviour – Delivers from sin and death.
5. John 1:1, The Word – Present with God at the Creation.
6. John 1:14, Only Begotten of the Father – The Unique, only Son of the Living God.
7. John 1:29, Lamb of God – Gave His life as a Sacrifice on our behalf.
8. John 6:35, Bread of Life – The One essential food.
9. John 9:5, Light of the World – Brings hope in the midst of darkness.
10. John 10:11, Good Shepherd – Provider and Caretaker.
11. Acts 3:22, Prophet – Faithful proclaimer of the Truths.
12. 1 Cor 2:8, Lord of Glory – The Power and Presence of the Living God.
13. 1 Cor 15:45, Adam, Last Adam – First of the new race of the Redeemed.
14. Gal 3:16, Seed of Abraham – Mediator of God’s Covenant.
15. Eph 2:20, Chief Cornerstone – A Sure Foundation for life.
16. Col 1:18, First Born from the dead –He leads us into resurrection and life.
17. 1 Tim 2:5, Mediator between God and man – He brings us into God’s presence, redeemed and forgiven.
18. Hebrew 3:1, High Priest – A perfect sacrifice for our sins.
19. Hebrew 13:20, Great Shepherd of the sheep – Trustworthy guide and protector.
20. 1 Pet 5:4, Chief Shepherd – Chief protector, sustainer and guide.
21. Rev 19:16, King of kings and Lord of lords – The Almighty, before whom every knee shall bow.
22. Rev 21:6, Alpha and Omega – The beginning and ending of all things.
