Friendship

“A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”
(Proverbs 18:24 KJV)

I received an email today from a very dear friend who had just received the writing I sent out this morning. He told me that he was just getting ready to email me because he hadn’t heard from me today. How that warmed and touched my heart! He is a very busy man, yet he cares enough about me to miss me because he hadn’t heard from me.

Friendship is a special gift from Jesus. He gives us friends to encourage us when we get discouraged. This verse says that friends must show themselves friendly. It is not enough to have a close, dear friend. We must be a friend to them in return. Friendship, like any other relationship must be built on honesty, sincerity, and faithfulness. Unless the friendship has Jesus as the Chief Cornerstone, it will not survive.

The greatest Friend we can have is Jesus. He is a Friend beyond compare. He never leaves us, not even for a moment. When we hurt Him, as we all do, He opens His Arms wider and waits for us to run into them. He forgives us over and over again and never holds anything against us. He sees the tears we shed in our hearts and feels the anguish that we feel. There is no One like Jesus! O how I love my Best Friend, Jesus!

Do you know this Friend of mine? There is a difference between being saved and knowing Him. To know someone, you have to spend time with him or her. How much time have you spent with Jesus today?
