In this ongoing series, we will be looking closely at what lessons we can learn from Solomon about how to have the kind of relationship with God that He desires for us to have. I urge you to take the time to meditate upon each Truth presented; to ask God to make each lesson REAL to you and to take quiet time to prayerfully ponder each point and what it means to YOU! Lessons on Relationships From Solomon, Lesson 21
Unit 3: The Truth About Where God Is
Part 2: How to Find God

Like a Gazelle, on Tiptoes at the Gate

In last week's lesson, focusing on Song of Solomon 1:7, we discovered that when God seems like He's answering everyone except you, there is something you can do. The first step is to identify that He seems far away, and the second step is the cry out to Him: "Tell me where you are working . . . Tell me where you are tending your flocks!" Now let's go to the Song of Solomon 2:8-10 to find out how God responds to this cry:

"Look! Listen! There's my lover! Do you see him coming? Vaulting the mountains, leaping the hills. My lover is like a gazelle, graceful; like a young stag, virile. Look at him there, on tiptoe at the gate, all ears, all eyes - ready! My lover has arrived and he's speaking to me!" (Song of Solomon 2:8-10) (from THE MESSAGE: The Bible in Contemporary Language © 2002 by Eugene H. Peterson. All rights reserved.) Song 1:8

The moment we cry out "Tell me where you are working!" He begins to come. But not slowly. He comes "vaulting the mountains, leaping the hills." He comes "like a gazelle!"

"But," you ask. "Does God REALLY want to spend time with me? Isn't He too busy? What if He's got more important things on His mind?"

Friend, God is NEVER too busy. There is NEVER anything more important on His mind than a relationship with YOU! Remember the above verse? "Look at Him there, on tiptoe at the gate, ALL ears, ALL eyes - ready!"

It's hard to believe, isn't it? But the God of the universe is so anxious to have a relationship with you that the moment you call, He comes running, ALL EARS and ALL EYES, ready to speak to YOU! Now that's pretty special, isn't it?

What? You don't believe it? Then just read the text again! "Look! Listen! There's my lover! Do you see him coming? Vaulting the mountains, leaping the hills. My lover is like a gazelle, graceful; like a young stag, virile. Look at him there, on tiptoe at the gate, all ears, all eyes - ready! My lover has arrived and he's speaking to me!"

Enough to ponder for today. Please DO ponder this though, my friends. Ponder the truth that God is NEVER far away! When we cry out to Him, He comes running to us like a gazelle over the hills.

Please join us next Saturday for Lessons on Relationships From Solomon, Lesson 22, for some ideas on HOW to call out to Him!

In His love,
