"For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and
scourgeth every son whom he receiveth because the Lord disciplines those
he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son. Endure hardship
as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not
disciplined by his father? If you are not disciplined (and everyone
undergoes discipline), then you are illegitimate children and not true
sons. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we
respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of
our spirits and live! Our fathers disciplined us for a little while as
they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, that we may
share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but
painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and
peace for those who have been trained by it." (Hebrews 12:6-11 KJV)
Man a broken glass. We, as men, are like a glass containing water. Now the water is the Spirit of God. We are filled with the Holy Spirit, but we do not perceive that our glass has a crack. We do not perceive that we are being drained daily, and for that reason, we will not seek to repair or replace the glass until it is too late. Knowing this, our loving Saviour and Eternal Father in Heaven, through His love brings our attention to the crack. He tests us and trys us, allowing us to see our weakness, allowing us to realize the frailty of our glass. Fear not if your glass is broken by the Lord, for this is done that we have no choice but to either replace or repair it.
This is the explanation of my parable. God is truly awesome in every way, my friends. In Christ, to test a glass to see whether it has a leak or not, the best thing to do would be to full it to the brim. If there is a crack, slowly but surely everything will escape through that opening. Now God does not try us so that we may lose contact with Him and drift further and further away; but He wants us to realize our faults and correct them, so that we may be able to work efficiently and effectively for others. Many of us would probably use a cracked glass for ourselves (well, maybe not ALL of us), where the same cracked glass would totally be inappropriate for a guest. Therefore, to go and give the Word of God to the nations, the vessels containing it should be reliable and sturdy. So fear not for the test or trial of the glass, for if it was not tested, we would end up soaking our friends and loved ones in unsound doctrine, instead of allowing them to sip at will from God's Fountain of Life.
