What About my Birthday

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.” (Luke 2: 11,12 KJV)

This afternoon as I was looking for something in the newspaper, I saw a box that had celebrity’s birthdays for today. How this must hurt Jesus and break His heart because when it is His birthday it isn’t listed in the same box as the celebrity’s. If ever there was someone who is royalty and a celebrity, it is Jesus, the Saviour of the world!

Yes, we read about Christmas parties and special sales for Christmas and there are articles about choirs at churches having special presentations for Christmas, but where do we read about His birthday? I am sixty three years old and I don’t remember ever reading an article in the newspaper dedicated to Jesus on His birthday. Why is it that we have cake and ice cream to celebrate our birthdays, but on the birthday of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, there is no cake made in honor of Him?

I wonder if Jesus doesn’t sometimes feel as rejected now as He did when He was here on earth. He died a cruel agonizing death for us and all He asks of us is to love Him and each other, but so often we fail Him. He is longing to fellowship with us but we get so involved in our own activities and schedules that many times we don’t take time or make room for Him. Sometimes without even realizing it, we put Him on a shelf and just take Him down when we need something. Have you made room for Jesus in your heart and life? What are you going on give Him on His birthday? Have you opened your heart’s door and to Him?
