Affiliated with Jesus

“And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat. Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24: 13 - 15 KJV)

I received an email last night from someone who asked me what church I was affiliated with. This person did not ask me if I had accepted Jesus as my personal Saviour and this person did not tell me that Jesus loves me. How sad that it is more important to us what church a person attends than telling people about our risen Saviour and His unconditional love for them. We can go to church every day but that will not save us.

We can be baptized, give all of our money to charity and do good deeds but none of these things will save us. It is only when the precious blood of Jesus is applied to our hearts for the forgiveness of our sins that we are assured of a home in Heaven with Jesus for all eternity. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1: 7).

One of the definitions I found for the word “affiliated” in Webster’s Dictionary describes so adequately how I feel about Jesus. The definition I like so much is “closely associated with another typically in a dependent or subordinate position”. Because the blood of Jesus has been applied to my heart for the forgiveness of my sins, I am closely associated with Jesus in a dependent and subordinate position. I choose to be submissive to Jesus. He not only is my Saviour; He is also my Master and I love Him with all of my heart. I depend on Him for everything. Without Him, there would be no reason to get out of bed in the morning. If I can’t serve Jesus, there is no reason to get out of bed. Without Jesus, life is meaningless.

Have you made the decision to serve Jesus with all of your heart? Are you being submissive to Him and allowing Him to control your life? Can you honestly say from your heart “but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord?” Are you affiliated with Jesus or are you affiliated with satan? Who are you serving, Jesus or satan? Remember, the level of our service to Jesus depends on our level of love for Him. How much do you love Him and how much are you willing to do for Him?
