Allow Jesus to Search Your Heart

“Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my
thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way
everlasting.” (Psalm 139: 23, 24 KJV)
My refrigerator has not worked right since I moved in ten years ago. I thought
that it had been fixed right last month, but it wasn’t fixed. The refrigerator
part would freeze the food, and then thaw it out and it would get very warm in
the refrigerator. The food would spoil. I have lost track of all the gallons of
milk and the packages of meat that I have had to throw out in the last ten
years.
The freezer part would not freeze the ice and the food or if it did freeze the
ice and the food, the ice melted within an hour and the food thawed out while it
was still in the freezer. The owner of the trailer park where I live tried
changing the settings to a higher number but it did not work. The reason it did
not work was because it was dirty underneath and needed to be cleaned. I told
the owner that he needed to clean underneath the refrigerator because I could
not afford to throw food away.
Last week, he finally came over and cleaned underneath the refrigerator. I asked
him if he wanted to use my vacuum cleaner and he said that he would try it. I’m
not sure how much dirt he vacuumed out but the vacuum cleaner was full when he
finished. I had just put a new bag in the vacuum cleaner the day before and had
not used it. No matter what he did, the refrigerator did not work right until he
cleaned it.
I thought how true that is in our own lives. We try to clean ourselves up by
making resolutions and saying that we are not going to do those things again.
Yet we fail time after time and we will always fail. The reason we fail is
because only Jesus can change our hearts and our lives. We must allow Jesus to
search our hearts and cleanse them of all the bitterness, resentment, hatred,
jealousy, greed, and sarcasm that we have allowed satan to put in our hearts. We
can’t do it ourselves. Only Jesus can wash our hearts and make them clean again.
Have you allowed Jesus to search your heart and cleanse it from the things that
hurt Him and bring shame to His name?
