An Hourly Checkup

“Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.” (Hebrews 12: 15 KJV)

People go to doctors for an annual checkup every year. When it comes to the spiritual condition of our hearts, it is urgent and mandatory that we have an hourly checkup. We need the great Physician, our precious Saviour, to examine our hearts hourly, sometimes more often. There are times when we allow bitterness, resentment, jealousy, unforgiveness, criticism and sarcasm to build up in our hearts.

Only Jesus can remove these negative and crippling things from our hearts. We must allow Him to operate on our hearts and apply His precious blood to our hearts so that we won’t bring disgrace and shame to Him by the way we live our lives and by the words that come out of our mouths. Unless we have an hourly checkup by our Physician so that He can remove the things that hurt Him, we will not be able to serve Him effectively.

The world is watching those of us who claim to be Christians to see if there is a difference in the way we live. When people look at you, do they see a smile on your face or do they see a frown? It is impossible to smile all of the time but if we have Jesus living in our hearts, we have something to smile about. Have you allowed bitterness to remain in your heart? If so, go to the great Physician and allow Him to operate on your heart.
