Just Another Day

“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.  For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

Luke 2: 10, 11

King James Version

Someone made a statement to me this morning that really upset me while we were talking about Christmas.  He said “Christmas is just another day.”  I informed him that Christmas is not just another day.  I told him that we celebrate the birthday of Jesus on Christmas.  How that statement must have broken the heart of Jesus.

We have allowed Christmas to become so commercialized that we have forgotten the real meaning of Christmas.  The real meaning of Christmas is love because Jesus is love.  Jesus was born to bring love, unconditional love, into the world.  If He didn’t love us, He would not have died for us.

On Christmas day we should read the Christmas story, the birth of Jesus aloud.  It doesn’t matter if we live alone or we don’t have children in our homes.  For years, I read the Christmas story aloud to myself.  I am so happy that this year that I have a puppy and I can read the birth of Jesus to him.  I used to read it to my parakeet when I had him.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your beloved Son.  Jesus has not only told us to love one another; He has set the example for us.  When He laid down His life for us, He showed us how to love.  Please forgive us for ignoring Jesus on His birthday.  May we bring joy and happiness to Him as we honor Him on His birthday.  Amen.
