Red Rover

"What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can
be against us?" (Rom. 8:31)
We often played the game, “Red Rover” when I was a child. Do you remember it?
First, the captains would choose people to be on their sides, and then the game
began. The chant was “red rover, red rover, let so and so come over.” The object
was to leave your team and break through the line of hand holding participants
in the opposing team. If you were successful, you would take one of the
opponents team members back to your side. If you could not break through, you
had to join their team and try to help them win.
I never did like the selection process, for after the few strongest were chosen,
the rest of us weaklings would wait our turn for a captain to call our name.
There is a captain who calls us all - the weak, equally with the strong and
agile. He doesn’t pick a,b,c, and d- but says, “Come, my children…. All of
you…come to my side and be on my team.” Of course this is God calling us. He
invites us to be on His team and when we do so He declares us “not guilty” of
sin. He fills us with Christ’s goodness and gives us right standing with Himself
and promises us His glory. This is told to us in the Bible, Romans 8:31:
"What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be
against us?" (Rom. 8:31). Satan will try and break through the lines of
defense, but he will not succeed, for the Bible also says- “With God on our
side, how can we lose?” (Ro. 8:31) This is the team I want to be a part of,
and just by accepting His invitation, that is a reality. Won’t you join me, as
God calls you, also, to be on His team.?
