Tarnished Silver

"Faith comes from hearing the the message and the message is heard through the Word of Christ." (Romans 10:17)

It was that time of the year once again – time to drag out the silver platters, flatware and tea service for a semi annual polishing. As I placed all of these items on the kitchen counter, I noticed a remarkable difference in the pieces. Those pieces which I use regularly were in much better shape than those which had been hidden away in a cupboard for 6 months. The flatware had been used on a daily basis, and the tea service had been used several times during the last 6 months. But those tray…..my oh my… were they tarnished and quite black because they had just sat in a closet for a long period of time. I had been told years ago, that if I had silver pieces, the best thing I could do would be to use them regularly. Then, with occasional polishing, they would be in tip top condition.

The same is true of our faith. If we take it out and use it every day & polish it up once in awhile through a revival meeting or a retreat it will be in much better shape than if we let it sit on the shelf somewhere in the recesses of ourselves. Let’s keep our faith shining. Remember, we receive faith from staying in The Word. Don’t let our faith turn dull and tarnished because of disuse. Stay in The Word! Amen? Amen!
