This devotional was originally writen in 2006; however the message is just as important for today!
Time
This year has come and gone so
quickly. I am thinking that time moves so quickly as if it has gotten away from
me somehow. But what is time really? In an attempt to define time, I think of
all the things it has meant to me. I have wasted time. I have also done things
in a timely manner. Things have happened to me just in the nick of time. Time
can be of essence in some cases.
Merriam-Webster defines time as the measured or measurable period during which
an action, process or condition exists or continues. There are other definitions
but none really explain the true meaning of time.
Times flies when you are having fun. It seems to drag when you are bored or
unhappy. I guess this tells me that the past year was an enjoyable one for me.
It certainly flew! Nothing out of the ordinary happened to me personally but
each day was a blessing all its own.
Time takes time. Now there is a saying that has blown my mind a few times. I
suppose it means that the element of time itself is a process which has a
notable duration.
It is almost time for another year as our calendar tells us. 2006 was not a real
good year if you listen to the news. Many died who have been in our lives via
our television sets for many years. President Ford and James Brown are two of
the most recent. Never forgetting that Saddam Hussein was hanged. These events
give us time to stop and think. I was quite fortunate this year and didn't lose
anyone close to me but know of some who did and my heart is sad for them.
I want to believe that this coming year will be a special one for all. I am
looking forward to it as a way to start over, begin anew. I am thinking of this
new year as a time of change.
