Fuel Stops

When you live a distance from town, you have to know where the fuel stops are.
You know that without a reliable supply of fuel in the tank you could be in
trouble.
If an emergency arose and you needed to drive out in the middle of the night,
you would want to be sure you had enough fuel in the tank to meet the need.
Of course, the need for a fuel supply also means you are responsible to plan
your outings. If you plan many short outings but none of them takes you past the
fuel stop, you could be in trouble. So you plan your short trips as meticulously
as your longer ones, keeping an eye on your supply and knowing its limits.
And you visit your fuel station regularly. After an outing, you stop by and fill
your tank ready for the next outing.
It is even more imperative when your particular fuel is not the most popular
one. You have chosen a specific fuel for ideological reasons, knowing your
choice would create some restrictions on all your plans and actions.
After a while your fuel needs and the restrictions on your life become second
nature. You can take it for granted that there is fuel in the tank to meet any
reasonable need.
When you think about it, the need for motor fuel is a parable about the way we
relate to Christ. Put the word, “Christ,” wherever I have written “fuel.”
Read it through again and then think about Colossians 1:9 – ‘We ask God that you
may receive from him full insight into his will, all wisdom and spiritual
understanding.’
Christ is the fuel you need for every trip you must take. Plan to visit Christ
regularly and keep an eye on your tank.
