Who is This

“When Jesus entered Jerusalem the whole city was stirred and said 'Who is
this'?" (Mathew 21: 10).
Jesus Christ became a man for three purposes: Firstly to accomplish His
prophetical ministry that is to proclaim freedom for the captives… "and the year
of the Lord's favour and the day of vengeance of our God" (Isa 1: 2) and to call
the disobedient and rebellious people to repentance (Mat. 21: 21).
Secondly it was to fulfill His High Priestly ministry, meaning, as our priest
mediator, He had to make a sacrifice for the people’s sin. But in this case
Jesus the eternal priest (Heb. 7: 21, 24, 26) himself became the sacrificial
lamb (John 1: 29). His death on the cross was not for His sins but He bore our
sins and offered Himself as a Sacrifice (2 Cori 5:21; 1Pet 2:24).
Thirdly, Jesus became a man in order to fulfill the kingly ministry. According
to the covenant made with David, at the time of His second coming, He will sit
on the throne and rule the people (Isa 9:6,7). The Jewish people were expecting
the Messiah that had been promised to their fathers, but they were looking for
Him to fulfill the kingly ministry. They could not accept His priestly
sacrificial death (Rom. 11:8) When Jesus was on earth, those following him
expected a new era, one that would mark the end to the Roman rule and the
beginning of the Messianic kingdom. So they shouted Hosanna to Him, welcoming
Him to Jerusalem as the ‘King of the Jews’ (Mat 21:41,9). But just a few days
later, when Jesus did not make any moves to become King, they became
disappointed, and their shouts of "Hosanna" changed to shouts of “Crucify him”!
The Religious and the political world were blinded and could not recognize who
Jesus was. Some accepted Him as a good teacher, while others as a great leader
and prophet.
Napoleon made this comment on Jesus: “I never knew a man and I tell you Jesus
was not just a man who founded a Nation on the principle of Love.” Let us see
what the scripture reveals about Him:
He is the eternal son, the very God who incarnated to redeem the world, for
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and Today and forever”(Heb.13:8)
He is the True God and Eternal Life” (1 Jon 5:20).
He is the ‘Bread of life’ (John. 6: 35) and the ‘light of the world’ (John 8:12)
He is the ‘Good shepherd’ and the ‘Door’ (John 10:7,14) the way, the Truth, and
the Life (John 14:6) and the Resurrection and the Life(John11:25).
He alone is the sinless one (John 8:46), able to carry away our sins and save us
completely (Heb.7:25).
How can a world find prosperity without Jesus? Everyone needs to accept Him by
faith in order to make their own lives worthwhile. Prayer: Thank you God for
giving us your all sufficient Christ. We accept Him as our Savior, High Priest
and King. Forgive our sins, in Jesus name. Amen."
